Social Engineering

The earphones arnt necessarily the main cause of hearling loss, it is how we choose to use the technology. 0 decibles is the quitest noise the average human can hear and 60 decibles is the volume level we use to speak. These decibles are unharmfull to the ear. Approaching levels like 110 decibles (a chain saw), 140 decibles (a firecracker), or especially 160 decibles (a shotgun) can start to harm the ears. Typically any sound louder that 85 decibles will harm your hearing. Listening to music at full volume can be up to 120 decibles. If you are not listening to music loudly you can still damage your ears based off of the duration of time. If you listen to music at 90 decibles for 3 hours, the damage can be equivelent to listening to 150 decibles for 30 seconds. Experts advise earphone users not to exceed 85 decibles when listening to music as well as not listening to more than and hour at a time and less than 3 hours a day. A possible social engineering approach would be to pass a law enforcing companies designing and manufacturing earbuds and headphones to only sell products placed close to the ear that produce top out at 85 decibles and cannot exceed that level.
